Brigham describes Kilauea caldera in 1864 and 1865, and discusses the formation of Pele's hair. He describes overflows that filled the Volcano House end of the caldera in the winter of 1863-64. He states that Kilauea was more active in August 1865 than in 1864, and that activity was continuing to increase. The paper includes a lithograph of Kilauea.
