This document presents the results of the multidisciplinary High Mountain Environment Project (HMEP), which ran from 1966 through 1970 as a semi-autonomous program of the Icefield Ranges Research Project. HMEP concentrated its research on high mountain environments, focusing on three types of alpine sites as represented by 1) Mt. Logan in the St. Elias Mountains, 2) the Chitistone Pass and Skolai Pass region of the Wrangell Mountains, and 3) the lower reaches of the Chitistone River and Skolai Creek. Forty-five studies on high-altitude climate and meteorology, water and snow, geology and geomorphology, and biology are included. Individual studies are presented as stand-alone reports that are accompanied by photos and numerous tables, graphs, and charts.
