Kilauea Again Active

Hitchcock CH. 1905. Kilauea Again Active. Science. 21(536):551

Kilauea caldera had been inactive, but during the last week of February 1905, lava broke out in Halemaumau pit, and on February 27 had formed a lake 250 ft long and 100 ft wide. [Although Hitchcock states that lava has been absent from Kilauea for 13 yrs, the Volcano House Register {Bevens, 1988} contains reports of brief activity at several times in the period 1892-1905.] He urges that spectroscopic measurements be made at Kilauea.
