As other drugs used to immobilize large animals presented problems both to the animals and to handlers, these researchers tested a ketamine-xylazine mixture on Roosevelt elk at Redwood National Park and adjacent Humboldt County areas in northern California. The mixture worked and minimized risks; the authors, however, suggest not using the high doses they did without the quick and effective reversal capability provided by yohimbine. Two tables show immobilization data.
