After two simultaneous fires burned 15,000 acres of Joshua Tree National Park in 1999, the cause of these recent fire outbreaks was examined and reported here. Data sets of the temperate desert woodlands in Joshua Tree NP include vegetation maps before and after the fire outbreak, aerial photographs showing long-term population dynamics, 100-year fire history, and field sampling data recording postfire succession. These data address how exotic invasive versus native plant species contribute to cumulative herbaceous fuel buildup in temperate desert woodlands and concludes with fire management recommendations.
