This article is based on a paper presented in 1993 at the 25th Congress of the International Association of Limnology. Ten large lakes were sampled in Katmai National Park in a baseline water quality study performed in 1990 and 1991 to determine if changes had occurred over time in the waterbodies. Six of the lakes were located in the Naknek River drainage and four in the Alagnak River drainage. This data was then compared to data that had been gathered in the same drainages in 1957. Results showed a possible reduction in phosphorus entering Brooks Lake. Examination of the older data sets, however, revealed that they are probably inaccurate and that changes over time in the waterbodies cannot be demonstrated.
