This article focuses on the results of the USGS using thalweg profiles to document changes in river conditions in Redwood Creek basin. They found that these profiles can be used to show trends in the development of channel bed topography through time. An analysis of the profiles in the Redwood Creek basin surveyed between 1977-1997 showed statistically significant differences in the distributions of residual water depths and the variation of channel bed elevations in streams impacted by high sediment loads.
