Authors' goals: "Specific goals for the hydrologic analysis are: 1) Determine the approximate watershed area and volume of water flowing from the springs each year. This analysis would quantify the seasonality and distribution of the water. 2) Determine the spatial and seasonal patterns of ground water flow through the spring complexes. We are specifically interested in understanding the patterns of ground water flow that produce the springs, and quantifying the variable pattern of discharge within the springs. Likely the patterns of discharge can be identified and a hydrologic template for the site established. Maps would be generated identifying the rate of groundwater discharge from all portions of the springs. 3) Develop an understanding whether changes in landforms or drainage patterns in the springs’ watershed could change water delivery amounts or patterns to the spring complexes. 4) If useful we would install wells adjacent to the upgradient side of the highway to determine how water flow beneath the highway, and how any changes in highway configuration or subsurface excavation could affect the patterns of ground water flow. 5) If useful we would install wells in the disturbed site, or sites, to determine whether the land could be reshaped to produce an appropriate ground surface/aquifer interaction suitable for the establishment and survival of P. howellii. The existing dense P. howellii stands would be used as reference sites for comparison."
