MACA was visited by one or more investigators a total of 86 times from 2003-2005. During 2004 and 2005, the author was participating in field studies of the bat fauna of the park and was often in the field during evening hours. Bat study activities were counted as herpetological trips if herpetological data was recorded during these surveys.Fourteen frog species, 12 salamanders, 5 lizards, 18 snakes, and 8 turtles were recorded from MACA during the survey (Table 1); these totaled 57 of the 70 expected species (81.4%). A total of 1526 species observations were made during the study period; these are broken down by species group and by year in Table 2. Reptiles and turtles were recorded individually; 1059 snakes were encountered on the park along with 180 lizards and 164 turtles. Amphibians were not counted as individuals since many observations included breeding choruses, larvae, and/or egg masses.All observations of amphibians, reptiles, and turtles made within ABLI and MACA have been tabulated in the accompanying Access file (NPS Database 1-29-07). In addition, nearly all available herpetological data from various writings stored in MACA files has been combined into a single document that provides considerable historical perspective concerning the fauna of the park.
