Report of an algae study conducted in Ofu and Olosega lagoons, American Samoa. At the time of this study, anthropogenic sources of nutrients were not detected in macroalgae in the lagoons. The major factors driving the differences among the three lagoons (live coral cover, macroalgae cover, and number of coral species) remain unproven. Data from this study provide the baseline needed to compare against data from future episodic events, to determine the nitrogen sources fueling algal blooms in these lagoons.
