Bandelier bone tool use-wear analysis

INTRODUCTION: June 20, 1994 The bone tool assemblage from Bandelier National Monument was collected from excavations at LA 3852, LA 60372, LA 3840 and LA 60550. The assemblage is small, a total of 47 specimens, with the majority from LA 60372 Area 1. In this paper I report a use-wear analysis on these specimens, utilizing an approach developed on bone tools from sites in the Sand Canyon Locality of Southwest Colorado (Bullock 1992). A description of the bone tool assemblage is presented first, along with an explanation of the categories into which the specimens were organized for this analysis. A discussion of the methods used by Bullock in her use-wear analysis follows. The third section presents the results of applying these methods to the Bandelier assemblage.
