The project of restoring denuded and erosive farmland in the Mojave Desert was prompted by the severe dust storms and hazardous conditions in Los Angeles County. With support from the Dust Busters Task Force, the US Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service administered deep-furrowing and planting of native, adapted species to reduce the severe wind erosion.
