Growth factors of five plants planted in 11 desert washes in the western Sonoran Desert of Riverside County, California were investigated on an experimental, 3.9 acre revegetation site. A correlation of soil electroconductivity (salts and nutrients) and soil density (clay versus sand), as wells as higher irrigation rates, was positively associated with plant growth of burro-weed (Ambrosia dumosa), creosote bush (Larrea tridentata), honey mesquite (Prosopis glandulosa), ironwood (Olneya tesota), and palo verde (Cercidium floridum). The retaining capacity of clay is greater when water is being regularly applied.
