This study is an initial effort to monitor the response of passerine birds to the first large-scale effort to restore old-growth ponderosa pine conditions, namely the effort of the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) Mount Trumbull Resource Conservation Area (MTRCA). Accordingly we quantified bird distribution, abundance, and (for selected species) reproductive parameters on 2 areas (approximately 300 to 400 ha each) of ponderosa pine forest in the BLM's. This study presents the first 2 years of "Before" data for BACIP design to quantify avian response to these treatments.
