The National Park Service contracts biological inventories in national parks across the country. Using a variety of field methods, a two-year of non-volant mammal species was conducted at Kings Mountain National Military Park in Cherokee and York Counties, South Carolina. Previous unpublished survey data of the park are also presented. Twenty-one species of non-volant mammals, representing a baseline of information for this park, were documented. Low abundances of mammals may be the result of the homogenous forest habitat and/or prescribed burning during the growing season. More research is needed for sound conservation and management of mammal populations.
