The geology of the Death Valley regional ground-water flow system region, consisting of many types of rocks that have been subjected to a variety of structural disruptions, is stratigraphically and structural complex. These rocks form a complex three-dimensional framework that can be subdivided into aquifers and confining units on the basis of their ability to store and transmit water.
