Mammoth Cave National Park initiated a rare bat summer roost project that targeted six species:federally listed gray (Myotis grisescens) and Indiana bats (Myotis sodalis); and regionally rare species that occur withinthe park including: Rafinesque’s big-eared bat (Corynorhinus rafinesquii), southeastern bat (Myotis austroriparius),eastern small-footed bat (Myotis leibii), and evening bat (Nycticeius humeralis). In 2004 and 2005, twelve species weredocumented from 1,161 bat captures. Of the six target species, only southeastern bats were not captured. Three ofthe six (evening, Rafinesque’s big-eared, Indiana bats) were tracked through radio telemetry. Captured bats were removed from the net, identified to species, sexed, and aged (adult or juvenile).Thirty-two sites were surveyed over two seasons: 2004 (June 17th – July 29th) and 2005 (May 15th – July 29th). This document contains a table showing survey location, dates surveyed, and universal transverse mercator (UTM) coordinates for each. A map showing all sites surveyed for rare bats at park. A table showing bat numbers captured by species at each habitat type sampled, number of net nights and five events of hand capture at four sites in 2004 and 2005. In addition, report includes an appendix that includes a table of all bats captured in the park during the 2004-2005 study.
