Water quality data and surface sediment diatom communities in lakes within Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore and Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore are integrated for initial calibration set development, collection and analysis of three sediment cores, and identification of historical patterns of environmental change in lakes. The report also provides a demonstration of how modern water quality data, modern diatom communities, and historical diatom assemblages from sediment cores can be integrated to identify ecological stressors.
