This study evaluates the relative historic significance and integrity of the remaining features of the historic Moloka’i Light Station. The Molokai Light Station Historic Resources Report has been undertaken as part of a long-range planning effort to provide background information on the historic Molokai Lighthouse and related structures and landscape features. The project encompasses a detailed historic resources study, including management recommendations, and an amended National Register of Historic Places Nomination form. The purpose of the project has been to evaluate the relative historic significance and integrity of all of the remaining features on the 22.9 acre site now under the ownership of the National Park Service and the US Coast Guard (which retains control over a three-quarter acre plot containing the lighthouse). The tower and associated buildings, structures and other features have been evaluated for their architectural significance and also for their importance in the history of maritime transportation and commerce. They have also been evaluated for their associative value in the social and cultural history of the island of Molokai, the Hawaiian Islands, and the nation.
