The Big Bend National Park Vascular Plant Species list consists of over 1200 species. The creation of this extensive list can be attributed to the work of many botanists from pre-park days to the present. Although an excellent working list, periodic editing and updating is necessary to stay current with new information. Many taxonomic groups lack clarity such as in the Cactaceae. The list is based upon Correll and Johnston (1979). More information concerning each taxon is available in a Microsoft Access 2.0 data base including vegetation community, life form, deposition in regional herbaria, location data, and abundance.
