The purpose of the paper was to brief members of the Park Service in preparation for their continuing work in planning for appropriate national park facilities in those areas under American jurisdiction. It is a practical and simple introduction to the area within the context of the Park Service's particular purpose. The paper describes the political and ethnic groups that make up Micronesia; the Japanese fortifications there; and the political developments of the time.
