The hawksbill turtle is an endangered marine species, occurring in tropical waters of the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. From 1989 to 1993, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park located nesting beaches and followed-up with a monitoring and protection program. Eight beaches were found having nesting activities, two within HAVO and six without its borders. Eighteen turtles were tagged and 98 nests were documented.
