This bear management plan is an interim plan for several reasons. Park managers are awaiting final results of several research projects expected to fill information gaps regarding basic population and habitat parameters, as well as impacts of human activities on bears in the park. Several sections of this plan are still in preparation. Especially with this first document, the plan is designed to use an adaptive management approach. Given the nature the bear management situation in the park, managers determined that a plan to provide guidance for operations in the interim is warranted. As we gain more information from research and field test protocols and procedures, and complete additional text sections, the plan will be refined until it will no longer be considered interim.
