Surveys for the desert tortoise were carried out along 24.2 miles of the proposed Willow Beach corridor for Highway 93 in Clark County, Nevada and Mohave County, Arizona. The results show the tortoise to be present in both the Nevada and Arizona segments, but densities are patchy and generally low throughout the route, with a few areas of moderate density (up to 68 tortoises per square mile) on the Nevada segment. Density estimates could be low due to the season in which surveys were performed and the inexperience of the tortoise survey crew.
