This study examines how the park was conceived, established, and managed up to the passage of the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act (ANILCA). Included in this volume is the legislative history of the park and important issues in planning, land acquisition, development, public relations, wildlife management, and other topics of management concern. Volume I discusses the establishment and management of Denali National Park and Preserve up to the passage of ANILCA.
