This document synthesizes information from the Craters of the Moon National Monument and Preserve (CRMO) resource management and interpretive programs as well as the Upper Columbia Basin Network (UCBN) Inventory & Monitoring (I&M) program to help interpreters increase their knowledge of biological resources, I&M vital signs, and techniques for interpreting these resources and programs at CRMO. It is important for interpreters to have knowledge of the resources, to assess the audience’s knowledge, and to be aware of a variety of appropriate techniques to interpret those resources. The 2007 CRMO Long-range Interpretive plan included six themes that encompassed ideas and concepts critical to visitor understanding and appreciation of the significance CRMO. The two biological themes of the plan, 'ecosystems and sagebrush-steppe' and 'kipukas,' are detailed in this document to provide interpreters with the knowledge and techniques to communicate the significance of these biological resources to visitors. "Interpretive Opportunity” side boxes presented throughout the document give suggestions for interpretive techniques.
