Prior studies conducted within the Black Creek area of Biscayne National Park, FL indicate a shift occurring between two grass species--with Thalassia dominating the grassbeds south of Military Canal and north of Black Point, and Halodule dominating the intermediate area (included as Appendix A to this report). The author reports the results of a follow-up survey of the grassbed communities between Turkey Point and Black Point. Sediment depths were measured within the areas to see whether a lack of sufficient sediment depth was responsible for limiting the occurrence of Thalassia. The author quantifies the amount of epiphytic growth on Thalassia blades to determine if increased epiphytic growth was limiting the grass's growth. In addition, Thalassia plants were transplanted from healthy Thalassia beds to other areas. All field work was completed between June and September 1986.
