The Everglades originally occupied approximately 2.5 million acres. Today only about 50% remains undeveloped. Of this 50% the largest leveed unit is Conservation Area 3A (M- 8 0,0 00 acres). The protection of this and other units of the Everglades is coordinated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the South Florida Water Management District, and the Florida Game and Fresh Water Fish Commission.
