Little Lost Man Creek in Redwood National Park, California is the site for this study of solutes in stream water interacting with streambed sediments. In the experiment using chemical tracers, the authors found two types of interactions of the solute and streambed: these involve intergravel flow and 'sorption onto streambed sediment.' Over a short time, they found transient storage of cations and the anion chloride, along with a further reduction in concentrations of the cation tracers in the stream and an increase of stored cations in streambed sediments. This first part of the report discusses results of the first 24 hours and the first 10 days. Includes data tables and graphs.
