The surface water quality and fish faunal composition of three interdunal ponds on Cumberland Island National Seashore, Cumberland Island, Georgia, were sampled from 14 April 1988 through 26 May 1990. The study was begun to determine whether recent dredging of Cumberland Sound affected the linkage between groundwater, the confined aquifer and water in the ponds. An additional objective was to gather baseline data useful in characterizing interdunal ponds on the southeastern coast of the United States. Data on depth, fourteen water chemistry parameters and fish fauna were collected. The water chemistry data showed seasonal fluctuations related to rainfall and temperature variations and to the influence of spring tides. Fish faunal composition was related to pond drying and spring tides.
