This document addresses the potential impacts on aquifer systems, springs, brine resources, and air quality within the Mojave Desert of a proposed project to construct and operate a 35 mile pipeline for conveying water between the Iron Mountain Pumping Plant on the Colorado River aqueduct and the Cadiz/Fenner area, spreading basins and appurtenant facilities, a well field of approximately 30 extraction wells and appurtenant facilities, a pumping plant on the conveyance pipeline to be located in proximity to the Iron Mountain Pumping Plant. This project would be undertaken by the Metropolitan Water district of Southern California in conjunction with Cadiz, Inc., a private entity, to provide conjunctive-use storage of up to 150,000 acre-feet of water per year and total storage at any given time of up to 1 million acre-feet. The document also outlines programs for monitoring recharge water quality and water levels and establishing pre and post-operational monitoring of springs, the aquifer system, Bristol and Cadiz dry lakes, air quality and other regional monitoring.
