Hardenbrook K. 2008. Status of the threatened Pitcher's Thistle in the Grand Sable Dunes at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Pages 13. In National Park Service: Western Great Lakes Research Conference. Marquette, Michigan. April 1-2, 2008. National Park Service. Marquette, Michigan

The only U.S. population of Pitcher’s thistle (Cirsium pitcheri) in the Lake Superior basin is located in the Grand Sable Dunes of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Research in this area will help determine distribution patterns, population size and demography, associated ecological communities, and conservation aspects. A management plan will be developed to guide Pitcher’s thistle and dune dynamics monitoring, invasive exotic plant control, and visitor use.
