This study considers the response of bryophytes to hemlock decline associated with hemlock woolly adelgid infestation in two forest stands in Delaware Water Gap NRA. Seventy-two plots were sampled initially in 1994-1995 and re-measured in 2003 and 2006 following hemlock decline. Bryophyte richness increased. Bryophytes responded to increased levels of light through a greater frequency of species occurring on coarse woody debris and to a lesser extent on bare soil in the plots.
