Implementation Plan for Summer 2005 Assessment of Wetlands in Lassen Volcanic National Park

This Implementation Plan proposes procedures for use during Oregon State University (OSU) summer 2005 assessment of wetlands in Lassen Volcanic National Park (LAVO). A general background on the project and its goals was provided in our July 2004 proposal. In brief, the two main questions being addressed by this project are: • What are the rates of omission and commission in existing maps of LAVO wetlands? • What is the relative functional capacity and ecological condition of LAVO wetlands? (as required to The second question should be a key component of the NPS’s Watershed Condition Assessment effort (Resource Stewardship & Watershed Planning) as well as helping to define Desired Future Condition for GPRA (Government Performance Results Act) requirements. The primary focus of this document is on the field component. Project components dealing with GIS, function modeling, and statistical analysis are described briefly; additional detail may be found in the original project proposal. The descriptions below, although generally consistent with the proposal, should be interpreted as superceding previous descriptions. The procedures have been designed to provide an overall characterization of each visited wetland rather than provide intensive (i.e.., not “vital signs” level) data for only a few of its resources. The data collection procedures and data forms proposed herein should be considered preliminary until final testing during the first week of field season.
