Hawaii Volcanoes National Park cave inventory & monitoring: overview 2008

Burrell J and Blakemore K. 2008. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park cave inventory & monitoring: overview 2008. National Park Service. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, HI

During the months of February through June 2008, a cave team in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park inventoried six selected caves. Each cave was thoroughly mapped and received several different surveys in an effort to detect resources unique to each cave environment. These surveys succeeded in identifying geological, biological, archeological and paleontological materials in specific cave zones with the use of mapping stations. Data from the February to July 2008 surveys will be used by Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (HAVO) in the management of its caves.
