During the months of November and December 2007, a cave team from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park relocated and documented twenty caves on the Kalaupapa Peninsula. Each cave was thoroughly mapped and received several different surveys in an effort to detect resources unique to each cave environment. These surveys succeeded inidentifying geological, biological, archeological and paleontological materials in specific cave zones with the use of mapping stations. Data from the November and December surveys will be used by Kalaupapa National Historic Park (KALA) in the management of its caves.
