Mammals of the Rio Grande Wild and Scenic River Downstream of Big Bend National Park

From 3 September 2004 to 29 July 2005, researchers surveyed mammals in selected riparian habitats along the Rio Grande from the eastern border of Big Bend National Park, downstream through Terrell County, commonly referred to as the Lower Canyons. Researchers documented 43 species of mammals with species diversity greatest in Rodentia and Chiroptera. The only nonnative species found was nutria (Myocastor coypus). This project was funded by the Chihuahuan Desert Network, Inventory and Monitoring Program, National Park Service.
