This statewide survey places the tortoise throughout the upper Sonoran and Mojave Desert habitats. This was based on museum records, use of records from Burge, a 2 year Arizona Game and Fish Department survey, and reliable sightings from the Arizona Natural Heritage Data Management System. Based on this information, gaps in population are confined to a disjunct group in northern Arizona (Parashant National Monument).
