The Mt. Trumbull habitat area is 438,598 acres and is defined as the area used by the Mt. Trumbull herd of mule deer. The goals of this habitat management plan are to 1) increase the carrying capacity from 2,000 to 4,000 mule deer yearlong, 2) maximize turkey populations 3) increase production of quality forage by managing livestock grazing, 4) construct 26 new wildlife waters, 5) manage areas above 6,000 ft as crucial wildlife habitat, 6) increase mule deer production and fawn survival to 75 fawns per 100 does by 1996, 7) establish a viable Kaibab squirrel population, 8) establish a chucker population, and 9) protect and enhance existing habitat.
