Genetic variation in pronghorn from Arizona

Three hundred twenty-two pronghorn antelope were surveyed for genetic variation at 22 allozyme loci. Genetic diversity measures, including heterozygosity, number of alleles per locus, and percent loci polymorphic, were estimated for the overall Arizona population as well as for some selected regions. Analyses of populations for the Arizona Strip, northwestern, central, northeastern, and southeastern portions of Arizona indicate there is significant differentiation in allele frequencies between the populations. The overall level of genetic diversity is greater than average values for other North American populations.
