Changes in butterfly abundance in 2 restoration treatments period with adjacent untreated forest were monitored in 1996 and 1998. Restoration treatments included thinning trees and reintroducing low to moderate fire intensity. Butterfly communities, nectar availability, and herbaceous species richness were compared. Butterfly species richness and abundance were 2 and 3 times greater and nectar plant species richness ranged from 2-10 times greater in restoration units than in adjacent plots. Butterfly abundance was not statistically different between 3 and 1 year post treatment plots.
