Two treatments (mechanical slash compression and light thinning of trees) were compared to reduce mortality post prescribed fire. Ten of 42 trees died within 2 years following burning of broadcast slash. No trees died following burning of mechanically compressed slash. The light thinning also had low mortality (3%).
