In 2008, landbird monitoring using the point-transect survey method was conducted in eight Sonoran Desert Network parks, Casa Grande Ruins NM, Fort Bowie NHS, Montezuma Castle NM, Organ Pipe Cactus NM, Saguaro NP, Tonto NM, Tumacacori NHP, and Tuzigoot NM. Parameters reported are 1) total detections by species, park, and habitat type, 2) community composition, 3) observations of breeding behaviors, and 4) notable observations and species additions. Changes made to the landbird protocol and additional background and recommendations are also outlined.
