Bioavailability of dissolved organic carbon and particulate organic carbon in the Nyack flood plain

McNamara M. 2007. Bioavailability of dissolved organic carbon and particulate organic carbon in the Nyack flood plain. REU Summer Internship 2007. Duke University

This study will assess the bioavailability of floodplain DOC as well as investigate its source in relation to location along the floodplain as well as in respect to the main channel. The bioavailability of POC from the hyporheic zone will also be determined using a bacterial respiration assay. It is significant to determine the bioavailability of DOC and POC in the Nyack floodplain because it represents a necessity for many ecologically important organisms.
