This report describes the methods used to monitor migratory and wintering shorebirds within Southeast Coast Network Parks. This monitoring protocol addresses three monitoring objectives: 1) Determine the status and trends in migratory and wintering shorebirds in SECN parks using normalized observations, 2) Determine the trends in migratory and wintering shorebirds in areas open and closed to vehicles in SECN parks using normalized observations, and 3) Determine the habitat types used by migratory and wintering shorebirds in SECN parks and if these patterns change over time. In addition to the monitoring objectives above, the protocol is designed to provide park managers with scientifically defensible data upon which to make day-to-day management decisions.
