Reference Application Functional Roadmap

The Reference Application is the NPS Natural Resource Program Center’s system for managing references to documents, datasets, media, and collections relevant to managing the National Parks’ natural resources. The Reference Application replaces the core functionalities of the NPS Data Store and NatureBib; therefore, the scope of the Reference Application is the management of citations and metadata about reports, datasets, GIS vector coverages, and shapefiles, GIS grids, hardcopy and digital maps, ANCS+ collections, permits, vouchers, field notes, etc. The Reference Service will be designed to be interoperable with other NPS systems external to IRMA, ensuring that it does not duplicate other IT investments. This Functional Roadmap describes the long-term vision of the Reference Application , with an emphasis on the general how and why. It addresses the business logic, workflow, and general functionality that users will ultimately realize when the system is completed. When necessary, this document explains why decisions were made (i.e., pros and cons of any controversial decision) and provides detail that will have major repercussions for the overall business logic and/or functionality.
