Mountain lion presence has become increasingly visible in northern Colorado Plateau parks and current environmental factors continue this trend. At many of the parks numerous lion-killed deer have been discovered within main park facilities such as campgrounds and park housing areas. With several million visitors annually recreating in the northern Colorado Plateau parks, it is critical to identify individual lions and determine abundance of lions that regularly frequent high-use park areas. Through this informatio, the parks will be proactive in case of any attacks, and can also warn visitors of activity on certain trails. Also, as drought and disease issues continue to threaten lion prey species, the potential of lion attacking humans may increase.
