When considering the larger landscape and ecosystems of the region it becomes important to monitor natural and restored vegetation communities on National Park Service lands within the HTLN. Understanding long-term trends of native plant species richness and abundance is critical as ecosystems become increasingly altered or disappear. Information gathered over time will improve the understanding of vegetation community patterns and processes as well as assess the effects of management actions.
