Dasycerus bicolor, a maculate, apterous species of the family Staphylinidae, is described. These mycophilus beetles are restricted to endemic forests of some high elevation areas in the Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains where the species now may be threatened by the precipitous, anthropogenic decline of Fraser firs, Abies fraseri (Pursh) Poiret.
