In July 2008, the Chihuahuan Desert Network (CHDN) Coordinator and Cooperative Unit Staff put together a work plan that addressed the purpose and necessity of CHDN to develop an invasive plant species monitoring protocol for park units within the network. The outlined objectives for New Mexico State University (NMSU) and the NMCFWRU (New Mexico Cooperative Fish & Wildlife Research Unit) were created to assist in meeting the needs of CHDN. In order to accomplish this, NPS and NMSU made a five-year Cooperative Ecosystem Studies Unit (CESU) agreement. This document is an updated report from NMSU and NMCFWRU for the development of an Invasive Species Monitoring Protocol for the Chihuahuan Desert Network (CHDN) park units.
